THE CATTERALL CRIER

CATTERALL PARISH COUNCIL

NEWSLETTER

Summer, 2010 Issue14

Chairman’s Report

Welcome to the Summer edition of the Catterall Crier, in the Spring edition I reported that we as a Council were working towards attaining the Quality Parish Council status.

I am very pleased to announce that we have achieved our ambition and we have been awarded the Quality Status, we are only the second Parish council in Wyre to do so.

This has been achieved by a lot of hard work and dedication of our Parish Clerk Gillian, who has had the unstinting support of the whole Council. The Council thanks Gillian for her enthusiasm and commitment. My thanks go to my colleagues for their contribution; this is indeed a great boost to Catterall Parish.

We hope to collect the award in due course.

The Council recently held a public meeting to discuss proposals for traffic calming in and round Catterall Gates Lane, the outcome of which you may read on page 2. This was indeed a unique occasion as it is the first time that we have ever been consulted by the Highway Authority and asked for the Public input and I sincerely hope that Highways will be able to meet most of the suggestions put forward. We will report back when a response from Lancashire County Council has been received.

Some time ago we carried out a Village Survey which ultimately led to the production of the Parish Plan; it would now appear that the District and County Council are becoming more interested in such plans to help form the future framework of the Parishes. The Parish Council is to consider the refreshing our Plan and if approved work will commence in due course.

On behalf of the Parish Council could I extend once again my thanks for your continued support.

To those who are holidaying at this time enjoy what ever you are doing and I hope the sun shines for you.

Dave Sharples

Chairman Catterall Parish Council

MULTI USE GAMES AREA

Parents are asked to ensure that if their children play on Catterall Playing Field or use the Multi Use Games Area those footballs/balls must not be kicked against resident’s fences nor kicked so hard as to land in the private gardens of those living nearby. This facility can be booked in advance for a small fee. For details please contact the Parish Clerk on 600689. A tennis or volley ball net can also be hired.

Please use this facility and at the same time respect it.

Catterall Gates Lane.

The Parish Council thanks residents for attending the public consultation held to discuss traffic calming measures on Catterall Gates Lane. Councillors met with Lancashire County Council highways department and put forward the suggestions from the meeting

The Highways department is to work these suggestions into an appropriate scheme and report back to the Parish Council in due course. From the discussions, it is unlikely that such a scheme will include the previously planned mini roundabout or the re-location of the bus stop at the junction of Garstang Road and Catterall Gates Lane. However, a different scheme will see the installation of a chevron at this junction on the North side and bend warning signs.

A party of 14 children returned to Belarus on July12th, having enjoyed a respite holiday of 4 weeks in this area. During their visit the children were hosted by local families and enjoyed a variety of trips, including Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Bolton Abbey, Chorley Fire Station and the South Lakes Zoo On Mondays and Fridays they had lessons, swimming and drama, rehearsing for the end of visit Concert. The weather, for once, stayed fine for the whole visit. Nine of the children were hosted in the Garstang area, including four in Catterall. Our thanks go to all those involved and remember, each visit of four weeks prolongs their life expectancy by two and a half years! If you would like any further information about the Charity, please contact Gurth or Val Wilson on 01995 604035.
